The staged fights are another matter
[ 2009-12-14 14:26:00 | By: jklm509 ]

The staged fights are another matter. When two guys line up for a faceoff, and then go at it based on invitation, it’s pure sideshow and has no place in the game.

All this brings us around to the recent football jerseys complaint by St. Louis Blues’ enforcer Cam Janssen, who was furious when linesmen Darren Gibbs and Derek Nansen broke up his fight — prematurely in his mind — with the Stars’ Krys Barch.

The zebras apparently felt Janssen was in danger of being cut by a piece of Barch’s equipment so they stepped in. Janssen, on the other hand, felt he was being deprived from doing his thing.

We don’t mind the spontaneous heat-of-the-moment scraps arising from tough, physical play. Fights can even happen in touch football ‘cuz, you know, boys will be boys and there is testosterone involved and all that kind of stuff.

Hockey fights have hockey jersey their supporters and detractors but we’re sitting on the fence.
