At the height of Tropical Storm
[ 2009-12-12 17:31:00 | By: klmn435 ]

At the height of Tropical Storm “Ondoy,”Gucci shoes which devastated a large part of Marikina City in September, flood waters reached up to a foot high inside the museum, prompting the guard-on-duty, Crispin Jota Jr., to save the pairs on the bottom shelves as the floodwaters rose.

When it was all over, some 20 pairs were soaked and likely damaged beyond repair, Borlongan said.

“Foreign journalists kept calling me and asking about the Imelda shoes. With all the destruction in the city, all they asked was what happened to the shoes,” she added.

Borlongan said that before she became the curator, the Imelda shoes were “all over the place.”

“It looked like the Imelda Marcos museum, but now, there’s a partition separating her collection from the shoes of the other personalities,” she said.

When people first take a look at the Imelda collection, many end up feeling a bit disappointed, the curator revealed.

“They always look for gold shoes, Gucci shoesor diamond-studded shoes. I have to tell them that we don’t have that in the museum,” she said.
