“They embraced us,

“They embraced us,” Tapia said. “It Air Jordanswas these simple little things, and that was a huge help. It was more things that we didn’t have to worry about.”
Robert Currie serves as the FAN advocate at Bear Creek Elementary.
“By taking care of those smaller things, you can indeed allow parents to work harder on those bigger kinds of things,” he said, like rent and jobs.
More than that, Currie said, it helps children focus on school.
“If a kid can come to school and they’ve got a backpack or pencil and paper, they may not have the whole nine yards but they’ve got something to start with,” he said. “And more importantly than that, they’ve got something they can call their own. And that’s huge.”
With FAN helping with small things that often bog down families, Tapia and Bain were able to focus on the bigger issues. They attended a class to learn how to be responsible renters, and in June, the family moved into a subsidized apartment on Bear Creek Road.
Tapia is currently working as a volunteer at Grandma’s House, a nonprofit faith-based program that provides shelter to pregnant and parenting teenage girls who have been abused or are homeless. Bain is staying at home with Mojave.
She credits FAN with helping the family work their way out of homelessness.
“There are so many things they do to help, Air Jordansit helps you focus on the big picture,” she said. “It helped us focus on getting into a home.”
