To counter this, the OMC obtained permits for higher levels from the Congress government headed by the late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. Armed with this, the OMC today exports iron ore that is actually excavated from MBT and HM mines and not OMC, sources said.
“Close to the Antarganga hillock (in Anantapur district), huge dumps of iron ore have been piled, entirely transported from the MBT and HM mines, which are subsequently transported primarily to Krishnapatnam besides other south Indian ports by rail and road,” said the source.
The notice served to the OMC by the Anantapur DFO Kallol Biswas (Notice Rc. No. OMC (68.50 ha)/2009/G3 dated 1.11.2009), based on an official visit to the mines by the DFO, says that mining operations were taking place on a much smaller scale to actually realise the actual production levels of the OMC. From the mining at the site, the OMC could not possibly produce around 2.7 million tonnes of lumps and 4 lakh tonnes of fines, he said.
